Closer to home

In addition to its services in downtown Vancouver, Providence Health Care’s Renal Program also helps people with kidney disease manage their health in their own communities and homes.

Community dialysis

Patients needing dialysis can access any of seven community dialysis units across Vancouver and the Coastal regions:

Independent dialysis

With appropriate training and support, patients can perform hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis at home. Providence Health Care’s Renal Program offers these options to eligible patients. Read more here.

Outreach

The Renal Program provides support to patients and programs located in many remote areas of British Columbia, as well as Yukon.

Telehealth Services

Teleheath uses videoconferencing technology to bring patients and health providers together virtually. This can allow people to consult with a specialist without travel. Sessions are held in a private setting over a secure connection and they are not recorded. During your session, you can see, hear and talk to your health care provider. You may have a family member or friend with you.

The following communities have Telehealth sites:

  • Vancouver (multiple locations)
  • Richmond (two locations)
  • North Vancouver
  • Squamish
  • Sechelt
  • Power River
  • Whistler
  • Bella Bella

There are also other Telehealth sites across British Columbia.

For information regarding Telehealth services, please call the Renal Program Administrative Assistant at 604-806-8936.
